UNIVERSITY

CHALLENGE

Party people

Although valuable research has been undertaken in other sectors, little has been documented about practice – especially good practice – in travel and tourism. The ITT Academic Chair, Professor Rhodri Thomas, will rectify this via this year’s ITT research project, by identifying cases where employers have adopted employment practices that offer flexibility to their employees while meeting
the needs of their business, whether they are large or small. If you feel that what your company does may be of interest to others, please email Rhodri at: r.thomas@leedsmet.ac.uk Remember, what you consider to be normal may be seen as radical by others! So, do please get it touch.

Research Nuggets

Blurred people

Summaries of new research nuggets have been added to the ITT website:

• Cabin crew training to control disruptive airline passenger behaviour:
A cause for tourism concern?

• Testing take-up of academic concepts in an influential commercial tourism publication.

• Human resources in tourism: Still waiting for change.

• Perceived quality and image: When all is not ‘rosy’.

A speaker

THIS MONTH AT ITT...

Places are being snapped up fast for the ITT Conference, with nearly 300 registrations already confirmed! John Prescott will be our Off The Record speaker; he should be very entertaining given the promised revelations in his forthcoming autobiography! I was delighted when ITT members, including larger bodies such as the Co-op, took part in the consultation process for the new 14-19 Travel & Tourism Diplomas.
By so doing, we are ensuring the qualification takes the form we need
to ensure it offers value to the industry. Thank you to People 1st for including us in the consultations. Last month I attended the TW Group Globe Awards which was a very impressive event! But am I right in thinking that, in general, there are a few too many award ceremonies these days? Having said that, ‘The ITT Awards’ does have a nice to
ring to it…
